Diabetes Awareness Research Centre (DARC) is a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) that was established in June 2009, to carry out awareness about diabetes mellitus and its risk factors like obesity, and complications like hypertension, chronic kidney disease, amongst others, DARC is registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) in Nigeria with Registration Number: 39617. The aims and objectives of DARC include amongst other, (1) To disseminate information about Hypertension and its risk factors like Obesity (2) To conduct research about diabetes, hypertension, chronic kidney disease and obesity. (3) To provide succour and treatment to indigent patients with diabetes melitus. (4) To collaborate with other agencies and persons interested in diabetes care.
Since inception, DARC has carried out the following activities:
1. Public enlightenment campaign on the disease and its complications like kidney failure, and hypertension on notable radio stations in Nigeria like Radio Nigeria FM Stations in Awka, Owerri, Abakiliki, Umuahia and state media corporations like Akwa Ibom State Broadcasting Corporation (AKBC), and Broadcasting Corporation of Abia State (BCA).

2. Newspaper publications to educate the public about diabetes on prominent national dailies.
